The Daylight computer: designed for focus and wellbeing

“Technology doesn’t have to be this way – to hurt us….We’re making a healthier computer.”

Founder Anjan Kutta set out to rethink what a computer could look like if it was designed for our higher selves. He decided to “think backwards from the problem” of distraction, screen addiction, eye strain, etc. Therein was born the Daylight computer. You can think of daylight as the love child of iPad + Kindle – yes, you can install and view apps (any app available for Android); yes, you can read books in black and white; yes, you can use a Wacom stylus; no, the screen has no glare but also no webcam and no color.

From their website:

Daylight began with a fundamental question: why can't technology work in harmony with our wellbeing? For founder Anjan Katta, this wasn't just theoretical - living with ADHD, he experienced firsthand how screens fueled distraction and disrupted health, despite trying every available solution from e-readers to printing documents.

Drawing on his background in hardware engineering and medical devices, Anjan spent six years developing a different vision: technology that adapts to human nature, not the other way around. While other devices push us deeper into digital immersion, Daylight aims to make computing more calm, natural, and healthy - helping students focus, parents maintain balance, and everyone reclaim their relationship with technology.

The result is more than just a computer — it's a step toward a future where technology enhances our lives without compromising our wellbeing.
